Cape Cod Bay Challenge

The Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC) is the oldest and most recognized standup paddle (SUP) event in the Northeast.

The primary goal of the CCBC is to raise funds for a truly wonderful non-profit organization, Christopher’s Haven. Located near Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Christopher’s Haven consists of nine fully furnished apartments and a community recreation area for families of children being treated for cancer in nearby Boston hospitals. www.christophershaven.org

2022 is a special year for the CCBC as it is our 15-year anniversary and we are dedicating the event to the memory of Tim Hanson who passed away last December after a hard fought battle with cancer. Tim was a long-time participant and organizer of the CCBC and a wonderful human being. We look forward to celebrating his life and all he has brought to the event over the years…..Live Like Tim!

Here is how it will work:

Virtual Paddle

  • Any time during the week of Saturday August 6 to Saturday August 13, 2022, virtual paddlers will be required to navigate a 15 mile+ route (all at once) of their choice.
  • Paddlers will need to confirm that they have the experience and conditioning to complete the mileage required by the event. This is for experienced paddlers only and is not something you should attempt if you are new to the sport.
  • Virtual Paddlers will NOT be allowed to paddle alone and will be required to have a support boat if they are paddling a route that will take them further than 1/8 of a mile offshore.
  • Virtual Paddlers will submit a screenshot of their completed route and time as recorded on your time/route tracking app (such as MapMyFitness or Strava).
  • Virtual Paddlers must commit to put in the effort to raise at least $500 for Christopher's Haven. A link to set up a GoFundMe 2021 CCBC page will be provided after registration

In-Person Paddle Options

There will be two options for the in-person paddle on Saturday August 13, 2022.

  • 16 mile paddle from Duxbury Beach north up the coast to the South River and then up the South River to the Rail Trail Bridge near Levitate Surf Shop (1871 Ocean Street).

  • Paddlers will need to confirm that they have the experience and conditioning to complete the mileage required by the event. This is for experienced paddlers only and is not something you should attempt if you are new to the sport.
  • Distance Paddlers must commit to put in the effort to raise at least $500 for Christopher's Haven. A link to set up a GoFundMe 2021 CCBC page will be provided after registration.

CCBC-Lite Paddle (approx. 5-miles)

Celebration Event – August 13 @
Levitate Backyard/Rexicana Surf Cantina, Marshfield, MA

A great after paddle event has always been the hallmark of the CCBC. While we understand that not everyone participating will be able to attend the Celebration Event, we wanted to have an option for people to get together safely to celebrate Christopher's Haven, the CCBC and the accomplishments of the paddlers. The details are as follows:

  • On Saturday, August 13, there will be a celebration dinner & music event from 12:00pm - 4:00pm for paddlers, friends & family at the Levitate Backyard/Rexicana Surf Cantina located at 1871 Ocean St, Marshfield, MA 02050. The venue will be open to the public but the CCBC will have a section designated for the event.
  • Details for the Celebration Event are being finalized. All paddler registrations will include a ticket to the Celebration Event. Friends and family will need to register via Eventbrite in order to attend the Celebration Event
  • The event will consist of “pay your own way" food & beverage and there will be live music

2022 is going to be a great year for the CCBC. We are excited to get the CCBC Community back out on the water together to celebrate our 15-year anniversary so please join us.

Now more than ever, children who are affected by cancer and come to Boston for treatment need Christopher’s Haven and Christopher's Haven needs our support.
