OUR HISTORY

Why we exist...
Christophers Haven History

Christopher's Haven was founded in 2001 when a group of people saw the desperate need for temporary, low-cost housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families while receiving treatments at Boston hospitals.

In 2006 the vision for Christopher’s Haven was realized when the organization opened the door to its initial apartment in Boston to a 7-year-old child seeking lifesaving outpatient pediatric cancer treatment with her family for their two-month stay.

In 2008, after a lot of hard work, Christopher's Haven opened eight apartments across the street from Massachusetts General Hospital. A full floor of apartments, including one used as “The Loft”, an important part of the Christopher's Haven magic. It’s a safe, fun place for the families to gather and share their experiences with each other.

The “Christopher” of Christopher's Haven is no specific child, but rather a name chosen to symbolize all the children going through treatment for cancer.
